The Del Mar College Art Department held the opening reception for the “Texas Photography Society 32: The International Competition” exhibition on Friday, Sept. 20 in the Cain Art Gallery located at the Fine Arts Center in Del Mar’s Heritage Campus. The event was free and open to the public.

It was an open-juried exhibition that featured 49 photographs that had been selected by Juror Maria Beatriz H. Carrion, the Assistant Curator of Photographs, for the Texas Photography Society. In addition to curating the final show, she also chose the first, second, and third-place winners plus five honorable mentions for the exhibition.

The guests at the opening reception have been served with the catering service provided by Citrus Bistro, and a cash bar provided by Corpus Christi Liquor Catering.

When asked about her thoughts on the exhibit, Manager of Recruitment and Engagement in Art and Drama Elena Rodriguez said, “I think this exhibition is great. It’s really cool because it’s a bunch of different photographs, it’s fun themes so that you would have everything from landscapes to portraits and everything in between. It’s wonderful to see how different artists use photographic medium, and it’s really interesting.” She also stated that her favorite photograph in this exhibit is Her Evening Walk by Ariana Gomez from Buda, TX.

The exhibition will last from Sept. 20 to Friday, Nov. 22 in the Cain Art Gallery.
