Del Mar College invites the public to an inspiring morning seminar with Corpus Christi native and retired NASA engineer George Salazar on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Tres Grace Community Room at the Oso Creek Campus.
With a career spanning over 40 years at NASA, Salazar worked on groundbreaking projects such as the Space Shuttle, International Space Station, and Artemis Human Lander programs. Now retired, he shares his journey in his memoir, “From the Barrio to NASA: Navigating Life’s Unexpected Challenges.” The book recounts his path from growing up in an impoverished Corpus Christi neighborhood to contributing to some of humanity’s most advanced space exploration missions.
Salazar will discuss lessons learned from his career and firsthand experiences. The event will also feature a book signing for guests who bring a copy of his memoir.
Throughout his distinguished career, Salazar earned many honors, including the NASA Silver Achievement Medal, John F. Kennedy Astronautics Award, and NASA-Johnson Space Center Engineering Directorate Legacy Award. Beyond his professional achievements, he has reached more than 19,000 students through speaking, tutoring, and mentoring.
This event is free and open to the public.
