Faculty members show art at annual exhibition

Artist mingle with fans, discuss works during opening night   The Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery showcased original art from more than a dozen Del Mar College faculty members as it kicked off the annual Faculty Art Exhibition on Sept. 21. Artists such as Amorette Garza, Gerardo Cobarruvias, Ken Rosier and Kerstin Dale made a special appearance and greeted the crowd. The artists discussed with the guests the meanings and inspirations behind each creation. M.A.P. Supports Local Artists Bright Future

By Amber Quaid / Managing Editor This year’s annual M.A.P. Shrimp boil was held on July 24 at the Galvan House Courtyard at Heritage Park. The event was hosted by former state Rep. Solomon P. Ortiz Jr. and former U.S. Rep. Solomon P. Ortiz Sr. M.A.P., or Minority Advancement Project, was founded in September 2011 by Ortiz Sr. The nonprofit organization focuses specifically on ethnic, immigrant centers, and services programs, showing minorities what’s out there to promote education and family.
