Del Mar’s Student Government Association is excited for the semester, with increased interest in the group and a new crop of members for Fall 2025.

SGA is the acting body between students and the college administration, and able to affect all facets of student life on Del Mar’s campuses by letting the administration know what issues are important to the student body and how funds should be allocated. Money comes from the Student Service Fee that all students pay as part of their tuition.

Past initiatives have included the ease of access to feminine hygiene products, the voting by the student body on making a smoke-free campus a reality, and even helping to build a playground locally at St. Paul United Methodist Church by assembling 250 volunteers for the cause.

“The importance of the club’s work is to pay it forward to the next generations who come after,” explained SGA President Sofia Jimenez. She stressed the impact the club has had over the years, even back when it was known as the Student Council.

Jimenez and SGA Adviser Beverly Cage are pleased with the increase in interest so far this year but are always ready to encourage more participation from students.

Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The location of meetings rotates between the three campuses, and the Sept. 17 meeting will be on Heritage Campus in the Harvin Center, Room HC210. Meetings are also available to attend online.

The organization will also host a booth during Rush Week, Sept. 15-19, on all three campuses so stop by or email studentgovernment@delmar.edu for more information.
