The Coastal Bend Food Bank and KIII-TV are once again teaming up for the Annual Share Your Christmas Food Drive on Wednesday, Dec. 10, to ensure families across the Coastal Bend have food on their tables this holiday season. From 5 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. donations will be accepted at the Coastal Bend Food Bank located at 5442 Bear Lane and KIII-TV studios located at 5002 S. Padre Island Drive. Now in its 38th year, this community tradition collects nonperishable food and monetary donations that provide meals to families across its eleven-county service area each holiday season.
As the cost of living continues to rise, many families are forced to choose between paying bills and buying groceries. The Share Your Christmas campaign provides relief for families, giving them a chance to help ease that burden and allowing the community an opportunity to share the spirit of the holiday season.
According to the Coastal Bend Food Bank, the items most needed include canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned meats such as chicken and tuna, dry pastas, rice, canned or dry beans, cereal, boxed mashed potatoes, boxed stuffing, pasta sauces, and peanut butter. Every donation helps provide nourishment to local families during the holiday season.
Student organizations and clubs are encouraged to participate by organizing food drives, volunteering, or helping raise awareness on campus. Every contribution, whether it’s a few cans or an hour of your time, helps ensure families can celebrate the holiday season with a meal to share. Volunteer opportunities are also available at the Food Bank warehouse, where you can help sort, inspect, and pack family food boxes.
Since 1987, the Share Your Christmas Food Drive has highlighted the importance of community spirit and giving back.
