CAIN National Show celebrates 60 years of artwork
The CAIN National Spring Art Show is returning to Del Mar College this semester, marking 60 years of the nationally recognized exhibition.
Founded in 1966 by Joseph A. Cain, the CAIN National was created to bring professional artwork from across the country to Del Mar College. Each year a guest juror from outside the region selects artwork from hundreds of submissions, providing students with exposure to diverse artistic styles and curatorial perspectives.
This year’s exhibition was juried by Brooklyn-based artist Tabitha Whitley.
Whitley has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Fashion Institute of Technology and a Master’s in Fine Arts in Painting from the New York Academy of Art. Her notable works include a group show at the Brooklyn Museum “Brooklyn Artist Exhibition” and a solo show at Gracie Mansion, “From Roots to Radiance: Embracing Her Soft Era.” Whitley’s art has also received attention in from publications like The Wall Street Journal and The Guardian.
“As an artist, I have spent much of my career on the applicant side of art competitions, so I understand how meaningful an opportunity like this can be,” Whitley expressed in an interview with Del Mar College’s Media Relations. “With that in mind, I gave careful consideration to each of the nearly 1,000 works submitted.”
For this year’s art show, 985 entries were submitted. Fifty-five pieces will be in the exhibition, including 25 sculptures and 30 two-dimensional artworks.

The decision came after a proposal for possible action regarding a tuition rate change presented by Vice President and CFO Raul Garcia to the Board of Regents. “We remain focused on keeping college affordable,” said Garcia. The agenda covered factors impacting a balanced budget, student affordability indicators, and historical student…
- Learning how to reclaim identity all over again at collegeIt was always me and my child for what felt like decades. Just the two of us. He was my first real lesson in life. No math or grammar, but this: no one teaches you what happens when your life eventually outgrows you. School doesn’t teach you that part. I gave up my college education to be a full-time single parent. Not in a dramatic, cinematic way – just real life. Bills, schedules, responsibilities. Survival mode. For years, my entire identity fit neatly into one role. It was always me and my child. Until one day … it wasn’t. One…

- Come on, and take a free bus rideI’ve lived in Corpus Christi for most of my life, but I’ve also spent quite a few years in major metroplexes: New York City, Austin, and Dallas-Fort Worth. I used public transportation like buses and trains for my main choice of transportation except for the city I was born in. I’d see the red buses occasionally, but I never took a chance to ride one and see just how accessible Corpus is via a bus. The Corpus Christi Regional Transportational Authority was created in 1986. As of 2026 it has 33 fixed routes across Nueces and San Patricio counties. Fare…

The program achieved an 82% retention rate, with 1,390 students currently enrolled under the tuition and fee waiver program. The first round was successful enough to warrant a second trial, the Freedom to Dream 2.0. This time around changes are being made to better suit potential Del Mar College students’ needs. While the core requirements of full-time…
