Valdar's Back 🫶

The myth. The legend. The Viking. Del Mar College’s mascot, Valdar the Viking, has become a superstar over the last five years since he journeyed down North America’s Eastern Seaboard and landed in Corpus Christi on April 27, 2017. He found his home at DMC, and the community embraced Valdar after he visited schools and community events throughout Nueces County and beyond. Now he’s going to sport a new look, which the College’s Student Leadership & Campus Life Office will unveil on Thursday, Nov. 3, as he “rocks the runway” for DMC students and employees to see. His beard and hair now have a more sun-drenched yellow hue, and the lovable ambassador for the College is kicking off his Nordic look to sport a more casual coastal wardrobe as well as tux and tails when the occasion calls for a more sophisticated looking man about town. After all, Valdar makes anywhere from 50 to 60 appearances each year around the Coastal Bend, ranging from sporting events to school visits to formal affairs as a representative of Del Mar College.Since August 2021, the College has engaged in rebranding efforts, including renaming the two existing campuses at the time and naming the campus under construction on the southside of Corpus Christi, updating the logo and introducing a new color palate for marketing purposes institutionally and for each of DMC’s three campuses. “It only makes sense that Valdar also pushed his way to the front of the line as part of the College’s rebranding efforts, wanting a new look to fit our new image by shedding his furry beard and Viking winter wardrobe to fit in more with the locals,” says Beverly Cage, Director of the DMC Student Leadership & Campus Life Officer. “We’re now ready to unveil Valdar’s new look as he continues to serve as one of Del Mar College’s ambassadors to represent higher education and the opportunities that DMC provides.”
